Yesterday we celebrated Chris’ birthday. Chris is one of our fantastic support engineers who also does a bit HTML work for the site. Just all around useful! We know he’s a fan of Star Wars, so in the tradition of creative cakes on birthdays, we knew exactly what to do:

When Chris went to cut the cake, we were making jokes about the knife being a lightsaber, then someone mentioned it should be photoshop’d. That’s when I chimed in with my rendition of Chris’ attempt at cutting his birthday cake with a lightsaber.

Oh, and the cake was delicious!

What do you do when you already have an excitingly useful and awesome iPad App? Make it better of course!

After reading all of the great feedback we received from you via the app store and by direct contact, we decided to revamp the FilesAnywhere iPad App from the ground up. The new app needed to be lightning-fast, easier to navigate, and needed to support all of the advanced cloud storage functionality that FilesAnywhere is known for. The app also needed to be engineered as a new platform for future development. In order to accomplish this ambitious redesign, our development team turned to our local partner, Copper Mobile, a team with some of most advanced iOS gurus in the industry, who have helped bring this new project to life.

The new dev team rapidly demonstrated their ability to create the reborn FilesAnywhere app for the iPad. In very short time our new team had the first alpha build of our project live and on our iPads for testing. We are pleased now to have this app in the final stages of being released.

By now you must be wondering what features this new App will offer. While we are keeping some of the best new features a surprise, here are just a few things everyone can look forward to:

1) New “quick-touch” interface
2) The ability to copy files from other applications to FilesAnywhere
3) Enhanced security features
4) Push notifications
5) Users can now update email address and passwords

Everyone at FilesAnywhere is extremely excited about our new advanced mobile app development team. The new iPad app is in the final testing stages and will be released to the App Store within the coming weeks. We can’t wait to share it with you and we look forward to your feedback!

What do you do when you move to a new office building with a nice, BIG break room?

1. Add a bunch of boring old tables and chairs (did it, still room).
2. Put in lots of junk food vending machines (NEVER!).
3. FOOSBALL!

Yep, you guessed it. Our very generous Corporate Sales Manager, Jonathan, donated a foosball table that we put to immediate use. At first, it was a slow trickle of players, but quickly escalated into a FilesAnywhere Foosball Championship. With both a singles and doubles tournament on the line, everyone joined in and got creative with team names.

I never played before, but I gave it a shot teaming up with Thomas, one of our brilliant infrastructure guys. Both of us being inexperienced foosballers, our team, Riker’s Beard, was out of the tourney rather quickly. But the real excitement was the singles tournament. Can you guess who dominated? We all had a great time repeatedly losing to Jonathan! Congratulations to our office FOOSBALL CHAMPION! Check out our roster and office rules in the FilesAnywhere flash widget below.

Next time, Jonathan. Next time!

You’ve probably heard the recent security news about our competitor. On Sunday, what should have been a routine code update opened the floodgates and left millions of users’ sensitive documents exposed for four hours.

The incident, referred to as the inadvertent introduction of an “authentication bug”, allowed anyone to login to any account with literally any password.  Not a segment of their customers, not a portion of the account information, but everyone and every document.

This mistake made our competitor’s customers vulnerable to Internet vultures at a time when identity theft and cybercrime are at an all-time high. The full ramifications of the event have yet to be revealed. Now the question has become: Can you trust cloud storage for your important documents?

Are You, and Your Data, Safe in the Cloud?

With the right cloud storage service, absolutely. Though unfortunate, this security breach is only indicative of one company’s lax standards. Even the government has full faith in safe, secure cloud computing options. Agencies from Homeland Security to NASA are moving systems, including document storage, grant management, and data center and infrastructure services, to the cloud.

FilesAnywhere: Security You Can Count On

Since 1999, security has been of the utmost importance at FilesAnywhere.  We go beyond standard measures to protect our customers and their data. Our security testing and QA process eliminates mistakes, bugs, and other glitches before they can ever affect our customers.

  • McAfee Site Advisor- Daily scans and continuous, automated, independent vulnerability assessments insure there are no holes in the FilesAnywhere system.
  • 128/256-bit SSL Encryption - Standard with every account, encrypted Trustwave SSL login authentication and 2048-bit private key Trustwave Root Certificates safeguard file transfers via our website and mobile applications so that data cannot be intercepted. This is the highest industry standard for web browser data encryption, and is the same level of data transmission security provided by major financial institutions for online banking.
  • Client Certificate Login Validation – Private Sites have the option of using client SSL certificates to authenticate known computers during the login process, eliminating the risk of logins from unknown devices.
  • Secure, Automated Backup- With the FilesAnywhere CoolBackup software, data can be encrypted locally before being uploaded using AES 256-bit encryption
  • Three-Tiered Testing- From development to release, updates are tested at a minimum of three levels before they ever reach our systems.

If you are using an online cloud storage solution other than FilesAnywhere, make sure strong security measures are in place. Ask questions and request confirmation. FilesAnywhere customers can always check the status of our site by clicking on the icon below.

PASADENA, Calif. June 21, 2011 –/BackupReview.info/– FastSoft, Inc. today announced that FilesAnywhere, a leading provider of enterprise and consumer remote file storage services, has selected the company’s E-Series web acceleration software to speed up file transfers from its cloud storage service.

FilesAnywhere offers businesses and consumers online file sharing and storage services, and just launched a new mobile faxing solution for smartphones that allows customers to fax documents stored in their FilesAnywhere account from virtually any location to any location.

The company installed the FastSoft E-Series appliance as part of its continuing efforts to provide its users with high-speed access to their documents and files. On average, the company reports that file transfers from the site are 30 percent faster with the E-Series.

FastSoft’s E-Series leverages the company’s origin content acceleration (OCA) technology, which accelerates the delivery of dynamic and non-cacheable data that is delivered from origin servers. When these servers are located far from the end user, a significant transport latency delay can often greatly slow content download speed. OCA augments content delivery networks (CDNs) and front-end optimization (FEO) technology to provide complete web performance optimization.

“We are in a highly competitive market and having a 30% performance advantage boosts customer satisfaction dramatically,” said Tim Rice, founder and CEO of FilesAnywhere. “Download speed is a really big deal because we give our customers more access to their data than our competition and working with FastSoft enhances that added value.”

“The adoption of cloud services has been dramatic, but has also brought with it an expectation from users that response times be as fast as they are used to from local network resources,” said Ed Snyder, FastSoft CEO. “FilesAnywhere is a cloud-services pioneer with deep experience and knowledge about user experience and satisfaction, which makes it even more significant that they chose our E-Series to accelerate their service.”

About FastSoft
FastSoft spun out of the California Institute of Technology to supercharge the Internet for business. FastSoft’s Origin Content Acceleration (OCA) software speeds content delivery by up to 150%. FastSoft’s unique server-side solutions improve a user’s content access experience without the need for software or modifications on the receiving end. FastSoft’s web acceleration solutions are used by some of the largest companies on the Web.

The company is privately held and is located in Pasadena, CA. More information is at www.fastsoft.com.
